This ten film franchise focuses on the horror icon Michael Myers who was committed to a sanatorium as a child for the murder of his older sister. Fifteen years later he escapes to stalk and kill the people of Haddonfield, Illinois while being chased by his former psychiatrist Dr Sam Loomis. Michael’s murder sprees occur on the holiday of Halloween, on which all the films take place. Therefore, these are the perfect films to watch in the build up to Halloween. All contain a lot of great Halloween imagery and have a great holiday/ autumnal vibe. This list is to ensure you can uncover some forgotten horror gems and avoid the stinkers at all costs.

John Carpenter made this supernatural horror film when he was still at his scary best. This is the second instalment in what Carpenter calls his Apocalypse Trilogy, which also includes the horror masterpiece The Thing and In the Mouth of Madness. Hard hitting thriller provides a cynical and murky look at the war on drugs. There seems to be no sign of stopping the constant death, destruction and white powder flooding through the border.
